COVID-19 TAX SEASON UPDATE
Under the Orange County Department of Health Officer's Orders, which are the same as those passed down from the Governor of California, “Essential Activities" include: xxii. Professional services, such as legal or accounting services, when necessary to assist in compliance with legally mandated activities.
With over 750 individual income tax clients relying on our help to prepare and file their 2019 income tax returns, we continue to work as if it is any other tax season, with a few notable exceptions: In-person tax appointments have been suspended indefinitely. We continue to accept income tax preparation documents through our secure web portal, mail, and drop off. We can coordinate any of the delivery methods above that you determine are appropriate for you and that don't compromise your safety or health. Delivery of your completed tax returns can be done via DocuSign electronic signature, mail and pick-up. For returns that are picked up, we ask you to take them home to sign e-file authorizations and send them to us in the stamped envelope, fax them or drop them at the office. Our office building is locked, but we continue to have staff at the office practicing physical distancing.
We encourage our clients whose tax returns are normally completed and filed by April 15th to treat this as any other year. For most of our clients, this will enable federal and CA refunds to be direct deposited or mailed as soon as possible, or to be applied to 2020 tax years. For clients with balances due, it will enable you to plan more effectively to make those payments by July 15. As of Friday, March 20, 2020 Internal Revenue Service and CA Franchise Tax Board have both delayed the filing deadline and payment deadline to July 15, 2020.
Please note, we too have some capacity limitations resulting from the orders we are all living under. As a result, you may find that it takes extra time for your returns to be completed, processed and ready for filing. If or when a staff member shows signs of sickness, for your safety, our safety and the safety of the community, they’ve been asked to stay home.
Thanks for your patience and understanding. We’ll keep grinding out tax returns for you.
